Who Is This 21-Year-Old Norwich Winger That Liverpool And Tottenham Are Following? Everything You Need To Know

Murphy has been in fine form for Norwich City

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are two clubs in the Premier League that follow a similar path in more than one attributes of the club. They deploy an almost similar style of play and are also similar in their approach to the transfer market. Both teams are always on the lookout for youngsters with potential who they can turn into stars and one player who is now extensively linked with a move to both the clubs is Norwich City youngster Jacob Murphy. He has stayed at the Carrow Road this season for the first time since his move Norwich City and is now wanted by the Premier League duo, who are close to signing him. For all those who are not familiar with the name, here is a mini-scout report on the Norwich City man:

Now 21, Murphy is an academy graduate at the Carrow Road and is a player who is highly regarded in the domestic circuit in England. He has played for the national time at the U18, U129 and U20 levels already and is not too far away from a call-up for the national side while his performances for Alex Neil’s side have only made him a more attractive option.

Having spent time at 6 different clubs on loan including Swindon Town, Southend United, Blackpool, Scunthorpe United, Colchester United and Coventry City, Murphy has already gathered a lot of experience and is just a couple of years from being ready for first-team action in the top flight of English football.

Liverpool have a trick up their sleeve in how they can beat Spurs to Murphy’s signature

Comfortable playing on either flank, the 21-year-old’s biggest strength is his shooting skill. He has in the past, scored some astonishing goals in the domestic games and is also sublime with his set-piece duty. Moving one to his style of play, Murphy is a quick, agile winger who loves to take on his man and get his team high up the field.  He loves to dribble and cut inside from both flanks to try and have an impact in the final third while he is also adept at getting past the defensive line to stretch the opposition defense.

He is not the strongest players in the air and at his age, and also, does not relish the physical attribute of the game. He may be a liability in crunch games for top sides in the league while the lack of defensive contributions makes him even more of a risk. However, at 21, he will only get better with more game time under his belt.

Liverpool are in desperate need of a winger who can add some width to their attack, more so with Sadio Mane off to the AFCON. Murphy, may not be first team material, but he can surely help them out in domestic games initially, while he grows into a better player. Mauricio Pochettino will also love to have him in his side, as he ticks most boxes for the Spurs sides. At the moment, he is having a decent time at the Carrow Road and is showing signs of being a top class player in years to come.
