West Ham opinion: Should the Hammers make a move for Moussa Marega?
With Mark Arnautovic’s inconsistency and a meagre release clause to his name, West Ham needs another option as a striker. Add Andy Carroll’s upcoming free agency and all signs point to the Hammers spending a lot of money on a new striker.
That should happen either way because for a club targeting a Europa League spot, they cannot have a front-man who nets just 10 goals a season. They need someone who averages around 15-20 goals alongside the others at the club.
Maxi Gomez, the Celta Vigo star who has been continuously linked since January is one such example. But a move for him could be out of West Ham’s depth.
Instead, the club should look towards a more affordable option but given the criteria that the club is looking at, there aren’t too many players like that around.
However, one man who does fit that bill is Moussa Marega and the Guardian has reported that the Hammers are interested. The 28-year-old has continued his phenomenal form for FC Porto well into this season, finishing with 21 goals and 10 assists.
That outdoes every single West Ham player and is the same as what Arnautovic and Felipe Anderson have scored together. It showcases just why a move has to be made, especially if the Hammers want to have a successful future in the Premier League.
Because as the cliché goes, goals win football matches and at the moment, the Olympic Stadium side are simply not scoring enough. More goals will help them but it has to be goals at a consistent rate, which is what Moussa Marega has done over the last few years.
He finished last season with 22 goals in just the Liga Nos. He also netted 6 in 9 appearances in the Champions League and has upped the number of goals he creates.
From just 5 last season, that number has doubled and Marega finished the season with 10 assists to his name. Not to mention; his experience, pace, and aggression will serve him very well in the Premier League if a move does take place.

Conclusion
West Ham need a new striker. That is pretty obvious after the season they’ve had and it should be the only thing on the club’s mind.
While Moussa Marega isn’t the youngest player in the world, the 28-year-old is at the peak of his powers and that for West Ham is something they have to take advantage of.
