Neil Harris’ Londoners are back in the Championship and will look to consolidate their position in England’s second tier by bringing in some quality.
They are better than we think they are. When looking at Sheffield United’s points total as well as that of Bolton’s, it is clear that League One was a strong league last season. Couple this with two very strong teams leaving the Championship, this division looks wide open.
Millwall may yet surprise a few people and here are two players they may bring in to help the cause.
Millwall have joined a host of other clubs in chasing Leonard. Naturally, Southend have stated that their 25-year-old midfield player is not for sale, though I’m sure for the right fee, Millwall could land him before the deadline day.
Last season’s League One rivals Sheffield United have already failed with a bid for Leonard, though apparent interest from the Lions and Burton Albion has been confirmed by Brown. So the price will be driven up. Leonard would be a very good addition to the squad though, and should the Blades drop out of the race, Millwall look to be the player’s preferred destination.
Neil Harris is reportedly looking at attempting to bring in Brewers captan John Mousinho. The 31-year-old is out of contract this summer and though he has been offered a new deal at Burton, he has not committed his future to the club just yet.
According to reports, Millwall have already held talks with the player’s agent and are aiming to bring the player ‘home’ – Mousinho is London-born. The player currently seems to be able to count himself as a free agent with two options – contract offers from both Burton and Millwall apparently being on the table.
For their part, Burton expect him to sign on, but it’s likely that he may see the bigger picture and see out his playing days elsewhere, in a bid to stay in this division. Mousinho joined Burton from Stevenage back in 2014 and was there during their most successful period, winning back-to-back promotions and then consolidating their place in the Championship.
Mousinho would bring huge experience to the Lions line-up and it would be no surprise to see them offer improved terms to the midfield man if he rejects their current offer.
