Two Sheffield United Players Who Could Leave This Summer

The Blades may yet get into the play-offs and secure remarkable back-to-back promotions but, despite this relative success, should they fail, they are fragile and may struggle next term without the right recruits.

Without spending any tangible cash, United’s transfer dealings over the last few windows have been the secret of their success with many a free transfer coming in and all making big contributions. All of Sheffield United’s squad have English as their first language and it’s this unity and strong communication which has been their foundation.

Similar types will be brought into the club over the summer but inevitably, some will also leave to make room, the most successful and the least successful being the ones who say goodbye to Bramall Lane. Here are two such players:

David Brooks

Chris Wilder has revealed plans to build next season’s team with, and even around David Brooks after more claims came forth about Tottenham Hotspur and other Premier League teams looking to sign him.

Wilder has spoken publicly about the importance of keeping the youngster who has been excellent in his breakthrough season and it has emerged that top division sides are willing to pay £10million-plus for him in the summer.

Given the finances at Bramall Lane, however, that sort of money would be hard for the owners and the board to turn down. So, unfortunately, it’s easy to see him leaving Sheffield in the summer.

Ched Evans

The controversial striker was given another chance by the Blades but, whatever your views on him being in football at all, the brutal fact anyway is that he isn’t performing at this level and cannot be carried by a club with a limited budget.

Nobody is owed a living and frankly, Evans is stealing his right now and needs to be moved out of this club as quickly as possible.

He did possess great natural talent at one point but these days, he is a mere shadow of the player we saw performing at the top level. At 29 years of age and given all that he has experienced, I’d doubt he will improve any from now.

Evans and Brooks are at the opposite end of their careers and at the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of form and ability right now so there will be mixed feelings from the club about the pair leaving. Brooks’ departure would be a disaster for Wilder but great for the club’s finances and will provide the boss with the opportunity to buy 3 or 4 quality players.
