Two Sensible Signings That Arsenal Can Make In January

Arsene Wenger will be frustrated with the way his new-look Arsenal side has failed to settle in to the new season. The Gunners brought in a couple of star players, who have already established themselves in the first team this season. However, there are a few players who have been unable to deliver their best, leaving the club reeling.

The French manager would be well aware of the shortcomings in the squad and will surely look to add quality to his side once the transfer market reopens in January. Arsenal are not expected to spend big, but if the chance arises, Wenger has shown that he will not budge.

So who should the Gunners sign in January? Here are two sensible options the manager should look at:

Leon Goretzka (Schalke)

The German midfielder is easily one of the best young players in his position, not just in his country, but also in Europe. At just 22, he has already established himself as the first choice for club and country and is only growing in stature by the game. He is out of a contract come the end of the season and has spoken about quitting the club.

Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on him for a move but Arsenal are also showing some interest. The Bundesliga outfit is expected to let him go in the winter transfer window to make sure that he does not leave for free and if Arsenal can sign him, he will solve the midfield crisis at the club for the years to come.

Max Meyer (Schalke)

Another Schalke star, who is ready to quit the club in the near future is Max Meyer. Constantly linked with a move to the Premier League last summer, Meyer has not been able to hit his best form this season in Germany and might be eager to leave the club. He will be a free-agent as well and Schalke will want to avoid losses by selling him in January.

Arsenal showed interest in the player but not too extensively. But with two of their star players seemingly ready to quit the club soon, the Gunners should be all over the German starlet and give him a chance to replace Mesut Ozil. He might be young but has loads of potential and could be a long-term option in the attack, as he can surely be a hit in England if given enough time.
