2 Quality players Bielsa must sign to boost Leeds’ promotion hopes including this Crystal Palace star

Two players Leeds United must sign to boost their promotion hopes

Leeds United enjoyed a blistering start to the new Championship season but they have lost their way a little bit in the last few weeks. The Whites were battered 4-1 by West Brom last weekend that saw them fall to third place in the Championship table.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds United have played an attractive, high-tempo brand of football and following their strong start to the campaign, a promotion to the Premier League is looking highly likely. But with Bielsa’s high-intensity style of play come a lot of disadvantages as players become more prone to injuries.

The Whites have already had a few injury problems so far this season and Bielsa will be wary of the Championship demands that can take a toll on his squad.

Keeping that in mind, the Argentine tactician should try strengthening his squad when the transfer window reopens in January.

Here are two players Leeds United must sign in January to boost their promotion hopes.

Jason Puncheon (Crystal Palace)

Jason Puncheon has made only one Premier League appearance this season as the likes of Luka Milivojevic, Max Meyer, Cheikhou Kouyate and James McArthur are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Given the situation, it is highly unlikely for the 32-year-old to break into the first-team this season.

If Puncheon is to find regular game time, he needs to leave Crystal Palace in January. Leeds must make a move for the midfielder as Puncheon could be a real asset going forward.

The 32-year-old would add dynamism and energy to the attack and his Premier League experience should be handy for the Whites in the second half of the campaign. Hence, Leeds must make a January swoop for Puncheon.

Dominic Solanke (Liverpool)

With Patrick Bamford out due to an injury, Kemar Roofe has had to carry the goal-scoring burden single-handedly. The likes of Samu Saiz, Pablo Hernandez and Gjanni Alioski have failed to contribute much going forward, so signing an attacker wouldn’t be the worst idea for the club.

Leeds should try signing Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke on loan in January. Solanke is yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds this season and is a player who would be hungry for football, having spent the entire campaign on the sidelines so far.

At Elland Road, Solanke would get opportunities to play and learn under Bielsa. Pairing the 21-year-old up top with Roofe could see Leeds form a potent attack capable of firing goals left, right and centre in the Championship.
