2 Pros And Cons Of Crystal Palace Splashing £30million On This Liverpool Attacker

Christian Benteke

Crystal Palace seem set to sign Christian Benteke from Liverpool for a fee which is rumoured to be close to £30 million as the Reds try to recoup the amount they spent on the Belgian when they signed him from Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old didn’t enjoy the greatest of seasons for the Reds as he fell down the pecking order under new manager Jurgen Klopp. It was a strange decision to buy the big Belgian seeing as to how he didn’t really fit into the pass and move style of Brendan Rodgers and even the high pressing game of new manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Belgian could be given a new lease of life at Selhurst Park but more importantly he could actually do well at the club. Palace have a lot of money to spend thanks to the new TV deal for the Premier League.

The club could do well with a striker but even the big Belgian would have a few pros and cons and we look at a couple of them for the upcoming season.

Pros

Great header of the ball

Benteke is one player who will do well in the air, that is something that everyone knows and the Belgian would look to be a threat to defenders all season long. The tall striker might not have done all too well at Liverpool, but he sure can be a great player for Palace.

He might have a lot of eyes on him, given the costly transfer fee, but his strength and ability in the air are without question and certainly the attacker would be looking to make a mark at Selhurst Park if he does sign for the club from the capital.

Will score if the delivery is given to him

One thing that Crystal Palace seems to have is great wingers and that will be a good news for the 25-year-old as he tries to resurrect his career in England. The 25-year-old only scored 10 goals in 42 games last season for the Reds but if the delivery is provided to him, he will score goals for Palace.

The club only managed 39 goals in the Premier League last season but with the likes of Frazier Campbell, Yanick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha feeding Benteke with crosses all day long, Palace could be set for a ton of goals this campaign.

Cons

Lack of confidence

The one thing that really has hit Benteke is his ability to mess up things more often than not. The 25-year-old was seen to lack a killer instinct at the tip of the attack and most of his misses came during one-on-one situations against goalkeepers.

His lack of finishing was a big issue for the Reds but just like any striker in the world, if he can get scoring a couple of goals in a few games, he will be back to his best and his confidence issue could very well be a thing of the past.

No real mobility

Even though the Eagles would tailor their game to suit Benteke, the striker still needs to move about and that has been a major problem for the former Aston Villa star. Big Ben isn’t the most mobile or agile player and with Palace having a bunch of quick players, he could be left in the dust.

The 25-year-old would either have to stick up top and not think about moving out of the penalty box or change his playing style completely if he is to survive his next move.

Either way, this could be the last chance for the Belgian striker but if things do work out for the better between the side and the player, he could be scoring 20 goals or more this season.
