Two Players Who Newcastle United Should Sign In The Summer

Newcastle United will be playing in the Premier League next season. After a slow start to the 2017/18 season upon their return to the top-flight, the Magpies have more or less managed to secure their status as a Premier League outfit for next season as well. Currently placed 10th, the Tyneside outfit will be hoping to end the season on a high with some strong results in the last few games.

Last summer wasn’t the most ideal for Newcastle, given owner Mike Ashley’s reluctance to loosen the purse strings. Manager Rafael Benitez has done a solid job of getting the best out of a decent squad but the club will be aware that investment will be needed in the summer if they are to progress next season.

Here are two players who the Magpies should look to sign in the upcoming summer window.

Hatem Ben Arfa (Paris Saint-Germain)

The Frenchman will be without a contract at the end of the season when his deal with PSG expires and Newcastle should definitely explore the possibility of bringing him back to the St. James’ Park.

The 31-year-old Ben Arfa joined the Parisiens in the summer of 2016 after a fruitful spell with Nice but hasn’t played a single game since April last year, after falling out with his manager Unai Emery over the lack of opportunities coming his way in his first season at the club. Despite not playing for almost a year, the 31-year-old remains a talented footballer, something that the Newcastle fans will be aware of.

Ben Arfa enjoyed a decent four-year spell at Newcastle United between 2010 and 2014, scoring 14 goals and chalking up 16 assists in 86 appearances before leaving the club for Hull City. Given the Magpies’ lack of creative presence in the attacking third, signing him could prove to be a great bargain.

Kenedy (Chelsea)

The Brazilian is currently on loan with the Magpies, having moved to the St. James’ Park in the January transfer window and the club should do everything possible to sign him on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

Since moving to Newcastle, Kenedy has made 9 Premier League appearances, notching up 2 goals and 2 assists. The 22-year-old has made a significant impact on the team and has had a major role in the club’s upturn of form in recent weeks. Fast, skilled and with an eye for a goal, Kenedy makes for a good option to have on the wings. Add to that, his ability to slot in as a left-back when need be, he is a handy asset to have in the squad.
