Two Players Who Leeds United Should Buy In The Summer

After another season that saw their Premier League promotion hopes get crashed and burnt, Leeds United will be hoping to make a strong comeback in the 2018/19 campaign and put up a stronger challenge for a place in the Championship top-six.

The Whites were off to a brilliant start to the ongoing season and looked set to be a top contender for a place in the playoff position until things unravelled in the second half of the season. Since the turn of the year, the Yorkshire based outfit has won just three games in the Championship and the club hierarchy will be keen on avoiding a repeat of such a scenario once again next season.

To that end, the signings that the Whites will make over the summer transfer window will have a great effect on how their season shapes up. Here are two players, who if signed, could help Leeds mount a promotion bid next time out.

Oliver McBurnie (Swansea City)

The Scottish striker, currently on loan with Barnsley from Swansea City, has been linked (Daily Mail) with a move to the Elland Road recently and could prove to be a shrewd purchase.

Since joining the Tykes, McBurnie has gone on to score 8 goals in 14 Championship appearances and has shown that he can be a handful when leading the line in the attack. Before moving to Barnsley, the 21-year-old had enjoyed a fruitful start in the Premier League 2 with the Swansea reserves, netting 10 goals and assisting one in just 7 games.

Leeds failed to replace Chris Wood when he departed for Burnley last summer. With Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s loan spell set to finish at the end of the season and the likes of Caleb Ekuban and Jay-Ray Grot struggling to make a significant impact, a move for McBurnie should very well be considered.

Matt Targett (Southampton)

The 22-year-old, currently on loan with Fulham, has been a permanent fixture in Slavisa Jokanovic’s side and has proven himself to be a reliable option at left-back. So far this term, Targett has made 16 appearances in the Championship for the Cottagers, scoring 1 goal and registering 2 assists.

The left-back position has been a major area of concern for Leeds this term, with the likes of Gaetano Berardi, Vurnon Anita, Laurens De Bock all playing there with very little success. Youngster Tom Pearce has emerged as an option recently but bringing in a more established player in the form of Targett wouldn’t be the worst idea for the Whites.
