Two Players Who Could Leave Nottingham Forest In The Summer

When a club is forced to change their manager partway through the season it is very unlikely that the team will be able to look back over that season as a successful one, and I doubt there are many Forest fans claiming they are happy with the current state of the team.

Since Mark Warburton was let go on New Year’s Eve last year Forest have only picked up three wins, and although the defence has improved under new boss Aitor Karanka and there have been some stand out results most notably against Arsenal in the cup and a 2-0 defeat of league leaders Wolves there is still a long way to go.

In the summer Karanka will be looking to make his mark on the team and after his spell at Middlesborough he has a reputation for being a very pragmatic manager, he prefers a 0-0 to a 5-4, so some players may be on their way out of the City Ground.

Jason Cummings

Perhaps Karanka had no choice but to let Jason Cummings go to Rangers at the start of the January transfer window, but the Scotsman’s spell in the Championship had hardly been an impressive one. Signed by Mark Warburton for £1.1million in the summer of 2017 the former Hibs striker never settled in a Forest shirt, and only managed 1 goal in the first half of the Championship season.

Aitor Karanka while at Middlesborough used players like Alvaro Negredo and Rudy Gestede in the number nine role, so a mercurial 5ft 8 striker like Cummings will not fit the bill.

For Cummings himself, he is now at one of the biggest clubs in his native Scotland and will be looking to nail down his place and possibly earn himself a move back North of the border.

Mustapha Carayol

The performance of Mustapha Carayol for Ipswich against Preston this weekend will have made quite a few Nottingham Forest fans question who this player was. While playing for Forest he did not show the skill, determination and speed he demonstrated for the Tractor Boys.

The 29-year-old has not had a look in at Forest making 13 substitute appearances and only two starts. He has not been a regular starter for many of the clubs he has played at, last starting more than 20 games for Middlesborough in 2014, and a player of his style of play would be considered little more than a luxury for Aitor Karanka, it is unlikely that Carayol will be at the City Ground for much longer.
