Two Players Who Could Leave Burnley In The Summer

Burnley have had an excellent season under the ever-popular Sean Dyche and can still finish in the top seven of the Premier League.

This has been possible not only because of the manager’s tactical awareness but also due to the team’s solid and resilient home form which has seen them gain points against some of the best teams in the country. Just as with any other club though, Burnley will have to evolve this summer with one or two stars potentially wishing to move on, and here are two names we may see at different clubs next term:

James Tarkowski

The 25-year-old centre-back has been an absolute star this season, with shouts for him to play for England and shouts from other clubs to have their managers buy him.

The latter could indeed happen in the summer, although it’s hard to say to what level he can climb if he moves on. There’s an argument that says he should turn down any approach other than the one from a top-6 but it’s unlikely that Burnley will finish this high again and so a move could be attractive.

The Manchester-born centre-half has improved massively since starting his career at Oldham and moving on to Brentford. However, his time at Turf Moor is what is truly getting him noticed and it wouldn’t entirely surprise me if someone like Everton came in with a large offer in June or July.

Ashley Barnes

The striker, still just 28, is popular and admirable, yet has some of the poorest statistics of the regular players in the Burnley squad and the brutal fact is that the Clarets need someone better if they are to move forward.

Barnes signed a contract extension in 2016, which sees him tied to Turf Moor until next summer and so he’s the perfect type of player for Burnley to attempt to move on for a fee before he simply plays out his contract and leaves for nothing.

The former Plymouth Argyle and Brighton striker has had quite a rise since his days at Grays Athletic but everyone has a ceiling and it’s clear that he found his when he reached the Championship. At Premier League level this season, he has hit 4 goals in 27 games. While there’s more to the game than that, those stats won’t cut it for Burnley from here on in.
