Two Players Who Could Be Sold By Leicester City In The Summer

Since their sensational Premier League triumph in 2016, Leicester City’s life in the Premier League has incredibly varied. While the sacking of Claudio Ranieri came as a huge surprise, the recent success of new coach Claude Puel has once again brought back smiles among the Leicester faithful it seems.

The former Southampton boss has masterminded Leicester’s impressive turnaround this season. The Foxes are currently sitting 8th in the Premier League table and are enjoying a steady run in the top-flight.

However, the Frenchman will definitely want to reshuffle his squad this summer, especially after the departure of Leonardo Ulloa and Islam Slimani. That being said, Puel wouldn’t hesitate to get rid of unwanted players either.

In this article, we will talk about two players who are destined to leave the King Power Stadium this summer.

Shinji Okazaki

Although it may be surprising to see Shinji Okazaki in the possible list of departures this summer, largely due to the fact that he has performed reasonably well since his move from FSV Mainz 05, the Japanese International could still prove to be a surplus to the requirements for Leicester City next season.

Claude Puel’s compelling tactical setup requires a lot of athleticism and a great tactical nous. The Frenchman executes a very efficient pressing scheme at Leicester, which has proved to be instrumental in their success in recent months. Puel lacked the tenacity or the tactical understanding from the Southampton forwards, which eventually led to his demise.

Shinji Okazaki, on the other hand, lacks the understanding to form an effective pressing line in the opposition half and one way or another, the French mastermind would want to upgrade his attack, which may result in the departure of Leicester’s Japanese forward.

The former Mainz star is clearly not ideal for Claude Puel’s tactical philosophy and a move away from the King Power Stadium could be perfect for both parties this summer.

Riyad Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez was tipped to leave Leicester City in the January transfer window, with Manchester City hugely interested in the services of the Algerian superstar. But the move didn’t materialise, largely thanks to Leicester City’s reluctance to let go of their prized asset.

That being said, however, the Foxes might find it difficult to keep hold of their star man this summer, with a host of clubs still keen on signing the Algerian international. Riyad Mahrez is by far Leicester City’s best player at the moment and has a contract with the club until 2020.

Manchester City, in particular, have shown a lot of interest and considering Pep’s ruthless endeavour in signing all his desired targets, it might not be long before we see the Algerian donning the Sky Blue kit next season.
