Two Players Who Are Likely To Leave Rangers In The Summer
Rangers are hard to work out since Pedro Caixinha took over, with the gap between themselves and Celtic looking as wide as ever on the pitch and yet their results improving so much against other sides.
Best of all was their 3-0 away win at Aberdeen and if they can back that up with a convincing win over Hearts this weekend at Ibrox then the future will look rosy. There is little doubt though about Rangers’ transfer policy this time last year being shambolic. Ageing players were brought in rather than the club focusing on youth as they had done in previous seasons and it’s an experiment which simply did not work.
Several loan deals will end in the coming weeks so it’s too obvious to name Phillipe Senderos, Clint Hill, Jon Toral and Emerson Hyndman as people who will exit the club. As well as these players, Caixinha might part ways with the following two squad members to make room for new blood:
Niko Kranjcar
The former Portsmouth and Tottenham winger’s signing raised some eyebrows last summer, but a close look at his overall profile means it should have been no surprise to see him make very little impact in Scotland. Kranjcar’s glory days in the English Premier League were all too brief and he, in fact, has shown very little for a number of years now.
Barrie McKay may be given the chance to improve by Caixinha next season and so will Joe Dodoo, so it seems that even without new signings in wide areas, the Croatian may be regarded as an expensive luxury.
Rob Kiernan
Clint Hill could leave very soon, Senderos has been a disaster and Rangers are in desperate need of cover at centre-back. Caixinha has made no secret of his desire to bring in two such players over the summer, so adding these to the current duo of Danny Wilson (who may still improve at 25) and youngster David Bates would be enough.
This would potentially leave Kiernan with no place in the squad and to be brutally honest, enough time and games have gone by now for us to judge him and unfortunately, it looks like he is not good enough to play a full part in getting Rangers to where they need to be. The Gers will be aiming at least for 2nd place next season, a domestic cup and a potential run in the Europa League. So players of Kiernan’s ability simply will not do.
