On The Verge Of Relegation: 2 Players Who Could Leave Sunderland This Summer

Share

David Moyes’ Sunderland side are one of the sides struggling to get any points on board in the points table. They have hit rock bottom, having taken just 19 points from 27 games this season. They are fresh from a loss to Manchester City at home and have won just 4 points since the turn of the year. They are in grave danger of losing their position in the top flight and will need to find some consistency quickly in order to have a shot at safety. The manager will not be too pleased with the performances of his side and will know that there is every possibility of relegation at the Stadium of Light. If the Black Cats do go down, a number of star players from the club might be on their way out come this summer. Here are 2 such players who could be leaving the club at the end of the season:

Jordan Pickford:

Arguably the most exciting player in his position in the league at the moment, Jordan Pickford has easily been one of the best shot-stoppers this season. He has been brilliant for Sunderland and has been the major reason why they still have a shot at safety. His goals conceded to saves made ratio is right up there with the best and at just 22, he is a player for the future. Moyes has previously spoken about wanting to tie him to the club for the long term but Pickford could be on the move if Sunderland go down this season. He is a star player in the making and the big clubs would be ready to pounce on him. It is almost likely that he will not be at the Stadium of Light come the start of the next season.

Lamine Kone:

Another player who has been in decent form for a struggling Sunderland side is their centre-back, Lamine Kone. Having put in some gritty performances even against the top sides this season, Kone is currently one of the most consistent defenders in the league but with Sunderland not showing enough promise, he could also be on the move this summer. He is currently tied to a long-term contract with the club which means he will fetch a decent fee and if Sunderland do go down, it is hard to see Kone stick with them. So it is better for the club to let him leave on a big money transfer, which can later be used to improve various areas of the squad. Even if Sunderland manage to stay up, they will surely have to fight to keep hold of Kone.

Lamine Kone has impressed for Sunderland.
