2 Aleksandar Mitrovic Alternatives For Brighton To Get Them Firing Again

Brighton are desperately searching for a striker to help keep them from the drop having been promoted to the Premier League last season for the first time in their history. Celtic’s Moussa Dembele and Newcastle’s Aleksandar Mitrovic seem to have been the main targets so far, though they may need a Plan C.

Dembele is not the player people thought he was a year ago and now his club may not be able to cash in on him. He is the second choice at best now in Glasgow while Brighton’s move for Mitrovic may not pay off either given that they have reportedly offered £7million for a man Newcastle value at £15million.

That sort of gap may not be bridged and despite the need for cash, Newcastle won’t allow Mitro to go on the cheap to a relegation rival and so, Brighton need to think outside the box.

The promoted side need goals and here are two alternatives they may consider as the January transfer window comes to a close:

Bobby Reid (Bristol City)

Reid is already on Brighton’s radar and they may well now be able to make their move with City having had a poor run in the league and now having been finally knocked out of the League Cup. With those things in mind, the Bristol City board may want (or need) to cash in on some of their stars such as Joe Bryan and of course Reid with the striker looking at least capable of having a good go at the Premier League.

Reid has 12 in 28 in the Championship this season which is a figure which sits favourably with the likes of Glenn Murray and Aleksandar Mitrovic who played in that league last season so he may be worth chancing.

Jordan Hugill (Preston North End)

Hugill clearly wants out of Preston, especially now that Louis Moult is there and he will push for a departure until the last day of the window. The likes of Leeds United are still interested to a degree, but see the likely £9million fee as a bit prohibitive though that would not be a problem for a Premier League side like Brighton.

If Hughton wants to sign Mitrovic then clearly he is looking for a hustle and bustle centre-forward, someone who uses his strength as well as being able to score goals and frankly, this describes Hugill perfectly. For me, Hugill is achieving more in the Championship now than Mitro did last season so I would see no reason why they shouldn’t go for him instead.
