2 midfielders West Ham should target in the summer including £23.6m Everton flop

Two Midfielders Who West Ham Should Target In The Summer

Injuries have always been a problem for West Ham United and this season has been no different, as it seems, with coach David Moyes missing a host of key players due to injuries.

Particularly in the midfield department, the Scot is missing the services of key players, Pedro Obiang and Edimilson Fernandes, while star playmaker Manuel Lanzini has recently returned from his hamstring problem. That being said though, the Argentine has suffered from frequent injuries throughout the course of this season, therefore, no guarantees should be made regarding his full-fitness for the rest of the season.

The currently available central midfielders, Mark Noble and Cheikhou Kouyate haven’t performed greatly either, in recent years, which may force David Moyes to sign a couple of midfielders in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Here are two midfielders the Hammers should definitely target this summer.

Davy Klaassen – Everton

Following his £23.6m move from Ajax last summer, Davy Klaassen has proved to be a huge flop in the Premier League this season. The former Ajax captain has constantly struggled with lack of playing time and is hugely expected to leave the Goodison Park this summer.

Known for his industrialism in the final third, the Dutch International has all the qualities to evolve as a key man in midfield for West Ham United. Klaassen is someone who can instantly prove to be a massive boost in the midfield for any team, largely thanks to his incredible tenacity and willingness to drive his team.

The 25-year-old has been hugely overlooked by Everton this season, having played in only four Premier League matches so far and therefore, a move to West Ham could make a world of sense for the dynamic Dutch midfielder. Klaassen was highly linked with a move to Fenerbahce earlier this year but the move did not materialise.

As David Moyes looks to boost his attacking options, Davy Klaassen can be an interesting addition to the Hammers next season and in addition, the Everton midfielder isn’t expected to cost a fortune either!

Sebastian Rode – Borussia Dortmund

Sebastian Rode’s promising Bundesliga career was completely shattered when he chose to move to the mighty Bayern, following his impressive season at Frankfurt a few years ago.

The German midfielder, once highly revered by a lot of Bundesliga experts, struggled with lack of play time in Munich and was eventually shipped off to Borussia Dortmund, where he’s struggled with injuries and make no mistake, lack of game time.

Sebastian Rode is apparently returning to full-fitness but considering the star-studded midfield lineup that Borussia Dortmund have at the moment, a move away from the Signal Iduna Park this summer seems like a logical choice for the German midfielder.

The 27-year-old is primarily known for his impressive passing and brilliant ball distribution. He can sit in as the No.6 and act as the main anchor in the heart of the West Ham midfield. Considering the rather evident deterioration of players like Mark Noble and Cheikhou Kouyate, Sebastian Rode’s addition to the West Ham midfield could be a boon for David Moyes next season.
