Having put in yet another commanding performance in the Premier League this weekend, Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have managed to open up a 10 point gap at the top and are hot favourites to go all the way. With a place in the Champions League all but assured, Conte would be trying to plan for the future and has been looking at a number of star players to add to his squad in the summer. He is also looking to sell a few to fund some superstars and has already started negotiations with some top transfer targets if reports are to believed. The likes of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, who are first team regulars have also been linked with an exit and this could be a busy summer for Chelsea yet again. But who should Conte’s signings be? He may make more than 2 but here are two key signings that can make sure Chelsea repeat the performances of this season next time round:
Bernardo Silva (AS Monaco):
One of the many stars that are linked with a move to the club in the summer, Bernardo Silva is a utility man who can fit in well at the Stamford Bridge. Comfortable playing on the flanks and also through the middle of the attack, Silva, is an impact player who has been in inspiring form this season. He has 8 goals and 5 assists this season for the French outfit and is also wanted by Manchester United. The likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian have done well this season but Conte will need an attacking addition to help them cope with the pressure of Europe and the 22-year old Silva could be a good option. He will have to work on his defensive duties to be successful under Conte but he is still young and is sure to come good for Chelsea in the future.
Marco Verratti (Paris Saint Germain):
Another player who has been extensively linked with a move to the club in the summer is Italian midfielder Verratti. Having already worked under Conte with the Italian national side, Verratti is a safe option for the manager at Chelsea but he will have to fend off interest from clubs like Barcelona and Juventus of they are to sign the player. Conte has used N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic as first choice midfielders this season and though the former has been excellent, Matic has not been the player that Conte needs, thus making the manager look into the window for replacements. If they are able to get Verratti, the midfield of Kante and the Italian will make it one of the strongest in the league. With the likes of Matic and Fabregas (or another young signing) as backups, Chelsea will have their midfield problems solved and settled for years to come.
