2 goals, 6 assists – Tottenham completing a January deal for €23m summer target could be a masterstroke

Why Tottenham Hotspur should break the bank for Suso in January

According to last year’s report from Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur were planning a January swoop for AC Milan forward Suso. In fact, Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign the Spaniard by tabling a €23million offer but AC Milan refused to sell their star.

Suso, 24, signed a new contract with Milan last September that set his release clause between €40 and €50million. Hence, if Tottenham decide to sign the attacker once the transfer window reopens, they need to spend big. But should Spurs rekindle their interest in the 24-year-old Spaniard?

Suso joined AC Milan from Liverpool in 2015 and has virtually become an ever-present in the team. He made 50 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring eight goals. And the diminutive Spaniard has started the new season from where he left last term, scoring two goals and assisting six in eight Serie A games.

Suso

Although Suso failed to make the grade at Liverpool, he has successfully revived his career at AC Milan. Spurs should go all out to sign the attacker in January after failing to add a single player in the summer transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino has a richly talented squad at his disposal but in order to realistically challenge for the title, he needs more quality players in his squad.

In Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura, Tottenham have a deadly attack capable of beating any team in Europe.

But apart from Eriksen, Pochettino lacks a player who is creative and is capable of producing magical moments on the pitch. In that case, Suso would fit the bill perfectly.

Known for his versatility in the final third, Suso is an expert dribbler with an exceptional technique with the ball at his feet.

A quick, pacy, agile and creative left-footed player, the Spaniard is capable of playing both as a midfielder and as a forward, on either flank and through the middle. He is excellent on the ball and is a great attacking threat when unleashed.

Suso’s passing and finishing skills are absolutely top-notch and his crossing abilities are fantastic as well. The former Liverpool man is industrious, inventive and can exploit the smallest of gaps to torment defences.

With players like Kane, Eriksen and Moura alongside him, Suso could take Spurs’ game to another level. Furthermore, he’s just 24 years old and has his best years ahead of him.

Without any second thoughts, Pochettino should prioritise signing Suso in January to truly compete in the Premier League as well as in Europe.
