Two Deadline Day Goalkeeping Targets That Celtic Can Look To Sign

The transfer window for Celtic has not been the most productive so far, they have struggled to get the names they want, while at the same time, they’ve also watched rivals Rangers make shrewd moves to attempt to close the gap between the two clubs. However, after the injury to Craig Gordon against Hibernian, the emphasis on their transfer dealings has shifted. It is now a mad rush to get a keeper in the door before the window shuts, and everyone in Scotland knows this. So each club is holding the Hoops to ransom over the price.

Trevor Carson

The Motherwell stopper Trevor Carson looks to be Celtic’s first choice, but their first bid of just £200,000 was rejected by Motherwell, who are looking for nearer £750,000 to tempt Carson away from Fir Park. The Motherwell keeper has been a key part of the Steelmen’s successful campaign, and losing their first choice keeper at the very end of the window would likely derail their season.

With this in mind, Motherwell will want to be compensated for this, and currently Celtic do not look likely to match the valuation for a signing that will only be useful for three months. However, they do need to get someone in the door so they will feel that their hands are tied and will have to stump up the cash to ensure that they get someone of sufficient quality in before the window slams shut.

Adam Bogdan

Hungarian international and erstwhile Liverpool backup Adam Bogdan may be another option for the Bhoys to bring in at short notice. Bogdan made his name at Bolton before moving to Liverpool where he has found his opportunities limited and is likely be able to leave either on loan or on a free transfer. Bogdan has several caps for Hungary and would bring more experience than Carson.

However, it may take him a while to adjust to the pace of the SPL, as he has played very few games over the last few years. Adam Bogdan also perhaps doesn’t have the reputation of being a rising star such as Trevor Carson but he has clearly not had much of a chance at Liverpool and could well be a cheaper short-term option for Brendan Rogers. Perhaps the board will be more willing to take the easy way out and sign a player whose current club would be much happier if he went.
