2 Classy defenders who Leeds can sign to bolster their backline including Reading star

Two central defenders Leeds United can sign to bolster their forces

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa wants to add another centre-back to his squad before the transfer deadline closes on Thursday, according to the Express.

Leeds currently have only two recognised central defenders in Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper. Although they have the likes of Gaetano Berardi, Luke Shaughnessy, Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips to cover that position, the club’s 63-year-old manager has admitted that he is seeking another central defender.

The Express claims Leeds could use the money from Ronaldo Vieira’s sale to bring further reinforcements in defence.

With that in mind, here are two central defenders Leeds can target before the transfer window slams shut.

Liam Moore (Reading)

According to Sky Sports, Reading defender Liam Moore has handed in a transfer request amidst interest from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Brighton have made two bids for Moore but they haven’t managed to conclude a deal, claims Sky Sports. Keeping that in mind, should Leeds enter the race for Moore’s signature? Absolutely!

Liam Moore

Moore has been a key player for Reading since joining the club in the summer of 2016 and in his debut campaign, he played in all 46 Championship matches as the club reached the playoff final. While Reading just managed to escape relegation this past season, Moore never ceased to impress as he was named the club’s Player of the Season.

At the age of 25, Moore has shown immense ability and potential to go on and become one of the brightest defenders in the second-tier of English football.

So Bielsa must throw his hat in the ring tempt Moore to switch to Elland Road.

Dan Burn (Wigan)

Leeds United need a central defender and Wigan’s Dan Burn ticks all the boxes. A new centre-back is a must if the Whites are to think about challenging for the top-six next season. Hence, Bielsa should target Wigan’s defensive lynchpin, Burn.

Dan Burn

The 26-year-old defender was an integral member of the Wigan side that secured last season’s League One title. His form was so good that he was named in the EFL League One Team of the Season.

Standing at 6ft 7in, Burn is aerially impeccable and while he isn’t quick enough on the ground, he makes up for it with his reading of the game. Adding the Wigan powerhouse to Leeds’ ranks would provide Bielsa with the defensive leader the club are desperately in need of.
