2 Championship clubs who can offer this promising Liverpool prospect a fresh start including Sheffield Wednesday

Two Championship clubs who can target Ben Woodburn in January

Sheffield United are in a good position this season as we enter the crunch time of the year. They are fourth in the Championship table with 30 points from 17 games, just three behind leaders Norwich City. Chris Wilder’s men have shown time and time again that they are ready to challenge for promotion spots this year, which is a testament to the progress they have made.

However, there is one player who has failed to live up to his reputation so far – Ben Woodburn. The Liverpool’s forward-thinking midfielder arrived at Bramall Lane on a season-long loan deal with raving reviews about his talent but it is fair to say that he hasn’t performed up to the standards expected of him.

As a result, he has been restricted to only one league start this season and a total of 156 minutes of Championship football thus far. It’s a frustrating return for the youngster who was expected to kick on and make a name for himself by doing well for the Blades.

There is no doubt that Wilder’s team has fierce competition for places, especially in the midfield department, yet many expected the Welshman to break into the regular eleven more often than not.

With a severe lack of game time at Bramall Lane, it would be best for Woodburn to cut his loan deal short and go back to Liverpool. He can then look for a move elsewhere, which might help him going into the second part of this season.

There are a few Championship sides who could do well by signing this 19-year-old prodigy in the winter window. Here are two of them:

Brentford

The departure of Dean Smith has led to a serious dip in form for the Bees. At one stage, they were looking upwards in the direction of a top-four finish, however, they are now down to 15th position in the table and are fearing the worst.

They have lacked quality in the creative department, leading to a goal drought for Neal Maupay. Hence, they can sign Woodburn on a short-term deal and play him regularly for the second phase of the campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday

The Owls are in a poor run of form and manager Jos Luhukay is facing questions about his future. They need to start winning games in the next few months or relegation fears might become imminent sooner than later.

They are struggling to score goals and create chances on a regular basis. Hence, they should sign Woodburn in the winter window to enhance their quality in the advanced midfield.
