Carroll was also brought in following Torres’ exit to Chelsea, but had scant, if no success during his time with Liverpool. The £35m Liverpool spent to bring him in was just £3m shy of what Manchester City paid for Kun Aguero, so that should put things into contrast regarding his Anfield misadventure.
He was then sold for less than half of his transfer fee after just 6 goals to his name in what was a disappointing stay at Anfield for the English striker. Has restored some kind of parity to his career at West Ham and will look to continue to impress in order for people to forget about his trouble-filled Liverpool experience.
Alberto Aquilani
The Italian midfielder was brought in following Xabi Alonso’s departure to Real Madrid. Big things were expected of him, but he failed to deliver on his expectations and was shipped out on loan numerous times as he found it difficult in England.
Rafa Benitez definitely got this transfer wrong as Aquilani shockingly made just 28 appearances during his whole Liverpool career and easily goes down as one of the worst Liverpool signings in the past decade, owing to the hype that surrounded his arrival at Anfield. He restored some sort of parity following his permanent move to Fiorentina but has again disappeared off the footballing radar.
