According to Calcio Mercato, Arsenal are planning to make a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s star wonder kid Kai Havertz in the summer. Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been reluctant to play Mesut Ozil over the past few weeks and Havertz will be a perfect replacement for his compatriot.
Mesut Ozil has only played 13 times so far this season and has fallen down the manager’s pecking order. According to Daily Mail, Unai Emery wanted Ozil to leave the club in January in order to free up some transfer funds but the German decided to stay at the Emirates and fight for his place.
Ozil has started just 1 game this year and the possibility of the German World Cup winner leaving the club in the summer is high. Arsenal will need to replace Ozil with somebody capable of creating chances in a game and Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz could be a really good fit.
Havertz has taken the Bundesliga by storm this season by scoring 12 goals and providing 6 assists in all competitions. Still only 19, his performances have been well ahead of his age and has attracted interest from the biggest clubs in the world like Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Kai Havertz made his debut for Bayer Leverkusen as a 17 year old in October 2016 and became the club’s youngest ever player. The youngster started 15 games that season and scored 4 goals and provided 5 assists. He was a regular in the following season as he featured 30 times in the Bundesliga and finished the campaign with 3 goals and an impressive 8 assists.
Due to his role between the lines, Kai Havertz is often the player who is involved in the transition between midfield and attack. Havertz has averaged 2.3 shots per game, 1.3 dribbles per game and also 1 through ball every game so far this season.
Havertz’s style of play is very similar to that of a young Mesut Ozil. He thrives when given space and his ability to find a through ball to release the attackers makes him a very special talent.
Havertz also has the brilliant ability of picking up space around the box when he doesn’t have the ball especially during the corners.

Unlike Ozil, Havertz does get stuck in tackles and tracks back to help the defence out regularly and is something Unai Emery will love in him.
His work rate is exceptional and under Emery, Havertz can take his all round name to the next level. Arsenal should be quick in the summer market to sign the 19-year-old irrespective of Mesut Ozil’s situation at the club.
