19.05.12 – The Reason Why Chelsea Are In Japan Now

Chelsea landed in Japan on Sunday ahead of their Club World Cup campaign which is due to start tomorrow. It was probably the nicest welcome that Rafa Benitez has received since he became Chelsea’s interim head coach.

Hundreds of fans greeted the players at Narisa airport outside of Tokyo – some members of the squad were more appreciative than others.- Fernando Torres departed England on a high after scoring twice in a 3-1 Premier League victory over Sunderland on Saturday. Chelsea will be without their captain John Terry, who will not feature in the Club World Cup due to injury.

The European champions open their campaign against Mexican side Monterrey in Thursday’s second semi-final in Yokohama. CONCACAF champions Monterrey defeated Ulsan Hyundai of South Korea on Sunday to set up the last four tie against John Obi Mikel & co.
