16 goals in 20 games – This £35.4m star would be a perfect support striker for Harry Kane at Tottenham

Why Cedric Bakambu to Tottenham could be a good move

According to reports in the Sun, Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur are interested in snapping up Beijing Guoan ace Cedric Bakambu. The former Villarreal striker has been in great form in the Chinese league, scoring goals for fun and enhancing his reputation.

The 27-year-old has netted 16 goals in 20 appearances for the Beijing club, attracting interest from the north London club. Spurs made a record by not signing a single player in the summer transfer window. As per the evidence thus far, few injuries and fatigues are hampering their progress in the season.

Hence, the report says that they are ready to spend some cash in January to add depth to their squad. A backup striker for Harry Kane is probably needed as Mauricio Pochettino intends to lessen the burden on the England captain. (Sun)

Previous backups Vincent Jansson and Fernando Llorente haven’t worked for the last year’s FA Cup semi-finalists. Bakambu was in the La Liga before, playing for Villarreal. He moved to the Chinese club for a fee of £35.4m in February 2018.

Here’s why the 27-year-old could be an ideal addition to Spurs’ attacking department:

Player Analysis – Cedric Bakambu

Bakambu is a slightly versatile player who can play as a striker or as a support striker. Hence, he can either act as a backup for Kane or play alongside him in games where Tottenham need two up front.

The 27-year-old is a ruthless finisher when chances arrive in front of the goal. His aerial prowess isn’t bad as well, winning aerial duels at a rate of 1.2 per game.

Apart from finishing, the Congolese can create chances for his teammates too. He has a key pass rate of 1.3 and has three assists to his name in 20 appearances in China.
