According to a report in Birmingham Mail, West Brom are linked with a move for Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe. The Baggies were interested in the player back in January as well, with fellow Championship sides Leeds United and Middlesbrough also keeping a close eye.
With the summer window coming, Albion seem to be one taking the greatest interest in signing the 24-year-old (h/t Birmingham Mail).
Lowe has had a great season with Portsmouth. He is one of the key figures in a team that is in well positioned to get promoted back to the Championship.
The winger has scored 16 goals and supplied 9 assists in 51 appearances in all competitions this season, clearly showing his great form over the course of a long period of time.
Here’s why West Brom mustn’t hesitate to sign him in the summer:
Despite a wobble mid-season and a change in manager, West Brom have had a decent season so far. They are currently fourth in the table, all set to feature in the playoffs this summer.
While they have been an attractive prospect going forward, scoring 84 goals in 44 league games is a proof of that, having more quality wingers in the squad wouldn’t be a bad idea, especially if they manage to get promoted to the Premier League.
As of now, the Baggies have Jacob Murphy, Matt Phillips and Jefferson Montero as options for wide attacking areas. Two of those three are currently on loan.
Furthermore, we have seen strikers Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez start in wide areas as well.
For that reason, getting Jamal Lowe should be a positive move for the club ahead of next season, regardless of whether they achieve top-flight promotion or not.
In terms of attributes, the 24-year-old is a rapid winger who can operate on either side. He can dribble past defenders in wide areas to create a space for a cross or cut inside to have a shot at goal.
Lowe’s numbers have been staggering in the final third, which suggests that his decision-making is very good in pressure situations.

All in all, if West Brom manage to sign Lowe in the coming transfer window, they could have a player who can flourish in the years to come. With the player’s contract about to expire next summer, Portsmouth might not be going overboard to sell him.
