13 goals in 9 games – Chelsea should ditch £65m flop and sign this £3.5m Serie A hotshot in January

Why Chelsea should definitely make a move for Krzysztof Piatek

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are interested in making a swoop for Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek. The Blues have also been linked with Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi, but are taking a look at the Poland international who will be a much cheaper alternative.

Chelsea left it late against Manchester United in the Premier League this past weekend, with the Blues scoring a stoppage-time equaliser to share the spoils at Stamford Bridge. The London club have otherwise made a flying start to life under Maurizio Sarri this season and are yet to be beaten in any competition.

But one area in which the club are currently lacking is the striker’s department. The Blues signed Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid for a whopping £65million last season and the Spaniard has failed to hit the heights since making the move to the Bridge.

Chelsea then went on to sign Olivier Giroud in January to end Morata’s woes in front of the goal and though the French World Cup winner is a good alternative, he is not the kind of striker who can deliver goals on a consistent basis.

Sarri should certainly consider making a move for Piatek. Since making the £3.5million move from Cracovia this season, the Polish striker has gone on to score 9 goals in 8 Serie A appearances. He has also scored a whopping 4 goals in just 1 Coppa Italia appearance. With a total of 13 goals in 9 games across competitions, he is on fire this season. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Piatek is beginning to turn out as a very potent striker and a clinical finisher in front of the goal. The 23-year-old also recently scored his first goal for his country. The 1-1 draw against Juventus was the first time the striker failed to register a goal in the Serie A this season.

Though not a proven player in terms of competing at the highest level, Piatek has made a prominent rise in the last one year. He has averaged a mammoth 5 shots per game in the league this season, while also winning 2.8 aerial duels.

The Polish striker is excellent at nagging defenders and winning fouls in dangerous areas. He is also superb at striking the ball from long range. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Piatek would definitely be an immediate upgrade on Alvaro Morata if Chelsea can try and make a move for the player in January. Most of the goal-scoring responsibility is currently on Belgian winger Eden Hazard and Sarri can swiftly reduce that by bringing in the coveted Polish striker.
