Crystal Palace opinion: Why the Eagles should go all out for Ismaila Sarr
According to a report from the Sun, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr.
The jet-heeled Senegalese, 21, produced 13 goals and 11 assists for Rennes last season, helping the Ligue 1 outfit reach the Europa League last-16 and win the Coupe de France title at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain.
Rennes are looking for around £30m for Sarr, who recently featured at the Africa Cup of Nations. The report claims that the 21-year-old has also attracted interest from Watford. However, Crystal Palace must beat Watford to Sarr’s signature ahead of this week’s transfer deadline.
Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha has been heavily linked with an exit this summer. Since re-joining Palace in 2015, he has been a vital cog in their attack with 10 goals in 36 games last season.
The Ivorian has played more than 300 games for the South Londoners across two spells, developing into one of the most highly-rated players in the Premier League.
Arsenal and Everton have been very keen to secure the 26-year-old’s signature, with the Telegraph claiming the latter have lodged a £55m bid for the forward. Palace are likely to reject Everton’s bid as it is too low. They value Zaha at around £80m.
Should Everton return with an improved offer and prise Zaha away from Selhurst Park, Roy Hodgson must replace the Ivory Coast international with Ismaila Sarr.
While Sarr is naturally a right-winger, he is very versatile and is capable of playing on the left wing and also as a centre-forward. He has a lean physique, which allows him to resist challenges and penetrate his way through the opposition defence.
His willingness to take on defenders coupled with his blistering pace makes him one of the most exciting young attackers in Europe.

The Senegal international’s addition to the club could potentially enhance the Eagles’ firepower next season. It would be a fantastic statement of intent from Hodgson’s Palace if they could get a deal done for Sarr in the coming days.
At £30million, Sarr would represent fantastic value for money. He is young, determined, hungry and possesses the sort of star quality that the Eagles should be attracting.
