12 goals in 15 games – Man United signing this in-form Bundesliga hotshot could define their season

Why Manchester United must go all out to sign Luka Jovic in January

According to a report from Calciomercato, Premier League duo Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are interested in Serbian striker Luka Jovic, who is currently playing for Eintracht Frankfurt on loan from Benfica.

The 20-year-old has been in terrific form this season, scoring 12 goals in 15 games for the Bundesliga side. This includes five goals in a single game in the 7-1 thrashing of Fortuna Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga.

Luka Jovic is currently the top scorer in the Bundesliga, having netted nine goals in as many games. The young gun’s brilliant form in Germany saw him get a call-up to the national team and he featured as a substitute in Serbia’s 2-1 victory over Montenegro.

With the Serbian hotshot having already attracted interest from Premier League giants Chelsea and Tottenham, Manchester United must enter the race for the player.

It isn’t a secret anymore that Jose Mourinho is actively pursuing a new central defender in January following Manchester United’s disastrous defensive displays this season. Manchester United have leaked 21 goals in just 12 games so far this campaign and it won’t come as a surprise if Mourinho splashes a lot of money in January to sign a world-class defender.

Along with the defence, United’s attack has been blunt, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard underperforming. Anthony Martial has been United’s man in-form lately and Juan Mata has made impactful appearances off the bench. Apart from the duo, the other forwards have struggled royally and Mourinho needs to do something to fix his team’s goalscoring conundrum.

To put things into perspective, the Manchester United manager can make a brilliant long-term investment in Luka Jovic.

The 20-year-old Jovic has a great potential and scored 18 league goals in Germany last season. He could give some real competition to Romelu Lukaku, who has scored just 4 goals in 11 Premier League games, with the last one coming against Watford in September. The Serbian international would give United a new dimension to their play in the final third.

Jovic’s excellent form for Frankfurt in one of the Europa’s top leagues assures that he is more than capable of scoring in the Premier League and United must do everything in their powers to beat their Premier League rivals, Chelsea and Tottenham to land the highly-rated Serb in the New Year.
