Why Cardiff City must make a move for Abdenasser El Khayati

Cardiff City’s difficult start to 2019 was worsened as Gillingham dumped the Bluebirds out of the FA Cup competition by beating them 1-0 in the third round.

Neil Warnock will continue to look for his first win in the New Year following a 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur. However, the FA Cup elimination did intensify Cardiff’s need for new players in the January transfer window.

Cardiff City are 17th in the table, two points above the relegation zone. They are currently struggling for points and if things don’t change quickly, it won’t be a surprise to see Warnock’s side get relegated from the top-flight.

Warnock has underlined his need for reinforcements in the winter transfer window following the shock defeat to Gillingham in the FA Cup. At the moment, Cardiff are looking shallow in quality and Warnock must focus on solving his team’s attack.

The Bluebirds have scored just 19 goals in 21 games, which clearly gives an idea of how badly Warnock needs some attacking reinforcements. That said, Cardiff must make a move for ADO Den Haag star Abdenasser El Khayati.

Abdenasser El Khayati, 29, has had a couple of failed stints in English football with Burton and QPR a few years ago but he’s managed to revive his career in the Eredivisie with ADO Den Haag. The 29-year-old has had a staggering season in the Eredivisie so far, scoring 12 goals and supplying 5 assists in 16 games.

Standing tall at 6ft 1in, the Rotterdam-born ace is a No.10 by trade but he can play anywhere across the frontline. This season, he has played a slightly deeper role at ADO Den Haag but has thrived well, dictating games in the Eredivisie, and scoring and assisting plenty of goals.

Blessed with a sound technique, Abdenasser El Khayati has good body balance and decent upper body strength, which coupled with his pace, acceleration, agility and dribbling allow him to wreak havoc on the opposition.

He uses his technical abilities and pace to spark creativity in the final third. The former QPR man works tirelessly off the ball, knits the play between the midfield and the attack, and gets into really good positions to score goals.

A composed finisher in front of the goal, El Khayati would provide creativity and flair to this Cardiff side. The 29-year-old old can combine brilliantly with Victor Camarasa and produce the goods on a regular basis. Furthermore, Bobby Reid could become a handful in the box as he needs quality crosses and passes to work with. El Khayati can certainly improve Cardiff’s supply lines.

Hence, Cardiff must table a bid to land El Khayati as soon as possible.
