11 Goals, 8 Assists And £12m: Perfect Player For Liverpool And Rodgers To Invest

Liverpool have been linked with a £12m move for Hoffenhiem attacker Roberto Firmino. His value according to the transfermarkt.co.uk is however, £13.

Here are three reasons why Liverpool should sign the Brazilian.

Creativity & Finishing

Roberto Firmino has been setting the Bundesliga alight with his performances this season. From being a relativel unknown, he has been thrust into the spotlight on the basis of an outstanding season for Hoffenheim this season. He has created 38 chances in 21 Bundesliga appearances this season, which includes 8 assists.

On top of that, Firmino has been able to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, having scored 11 goals. In fact he is his team’s leading scorer, ahead of highly rated striker Kevin Volland who has scored 8. This finishing ability will come in handy for Liverpool as they currently lack an attacking midfielder who can score goals on a regular basis.

Versatility

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is very fond of players who are tactically flexible or are able to fill in multiple roles when required. Firmino fits the bill perfectly in this regard. He is equally capable of across the attacking midfield and even though he has not featured very often in that role, he can also play as a supporting striker if required.

Liverpool will clearly benefit from his presence as he would give the natural balance to the side in tandem with Philippe Coutinho if they are deployed as the two attacking midfielders in a 4-2-2-2 system. Given his creative instincts, he would be just the sort of foil for SAS to keep the goals flowing.

Youthful Exuberance

Liverpool’s focus has been on investing in young players with potentially high resale value. At £12m, Firmino would represent the perfect investment as far as Liverpool are concerned. His value is only expected to grow in the future and if Liverpool will be able to make a neat profit on the player even if he decides to move in a few seasons’ time.

He has the fearlessness that comes with youth and is not afraid to take on players- he has been successful in 65% of the 136 take-ons he has attempted this season. This would gel nicely with the current approach that Liverpool employ- a fearless brand of attacking football that has won the hearts of millions of fans.
