Everton FC Opinion – Why Everton should sign Bruno Fernandes
According to a report in Portuguese outlet Correio de Manha, Sporting Lisbon are ready to negotiate a deal for midfielder Bruno Fernandes. The 24-year-old has been in great form this season, having scored 11 goals and supplying seven assists in 21 league appearances.
As per the report (Correio de Manha), despite the player’s good form, the Portuguese club have come to a conclusion to cash him in during the summer transfer window.
Fernandes won’t be short on suitors, with both Liverpool and Everton being linked with him over the January window. Now with Sporting’s willingness to sell the player, we could see a bidding war between two Merseyside clubs. (ESPN)
Here’s why Everton should beat Liverpool in signature of the 24-year-old midfielder:
Everton’s need for more quality in creative midfield department
Everton haven’t made the kind of progress that was expected when they spent a good amount of money last summer and hired Marco Silva. They have struggled to consistently deliver good performances and achieve the target of challenging the top-six teams in the league.
While the disappointment at the Goodison has been palpable, especially since the festive period, there has to be a sense of understanding that this is a long-term project that will take time before the fruition comes into fore.
The Toffees have struggled to score goals in good amount, partly due to the lack of a ruthless striker up front, and partly due to constrained creativity from the midfield.
They rely on Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison to do the bulk of scoring and assisting, which is not good enough. For that reason, getting an attack-minded midfielder in the summer wouldn’t be a bad idea.
That being said, Bruno Fernandes seems a perfect option for Everton. The 24-year-old is predominantly an attacking midfielder, who can play as a second striker, as a wide midfielder or in the tip of a diamond midfield.
He is a quality player, who has propensities with the ball at his feet. The Portuguese international has scored 11 goals and provided seven assists, with a key pass rate of 2.9 per game in the league. (Whoscored.com)
Fernandes is one of those players who always seem to find space in the final third, and from there on he has the quality to dissect any defence with his creativity or shots towards the goal.
