Chelsea romped to another superb win against Burnley in the Premier League this weekend and another man who has continued to shine on is midfielder Ross Barkley. The Blues are one of the three teams to remain unbeaten in the league this season and Sarri’s men are very much in contention for the title.
After making the move to Stamford Bridge from Everton this January, Barkley’s early time at the club was blighted with injury troubles and inconsistent performances. But under Sarri, the English midfielder has regained his mojo.
The former Everton midfielder has now started the last two Premier League games as well as the Europa League fixture. He has been a driving force behind their attack and the stats definitely show it.
Barkley has 3 goals and 3 assists this term, which means he has been involved in a goal every 65 minutes in the league and has scored from 25% of his shots. The 24-year-old has also scored in three successive games for the first time in his career. He is the first Chelsea player to do so since Frank Lampard.
The Chelsea midfielder now has every chance to replicate the former Blues captain’s feat and maintain his form. He was supreme against the Clarets, playing an instrumental role in three of their goals. It’s only the second time in Barkley’s career that he has been involved in three goals in the same game.
He supplied a total of 4 key passes against the Clarets, two of which resulted in assists. Barkley also had a total of 108 touches in the entire game as he bossed the midfield.
Only Jorginho had more touches than the former Everton midfielder and Ross plays a much more advanced role as compared to the former Napoli star. The English international maintained a pass success rate of 93.8%, which was the highest by any Chelsea player that night. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)
Barkley has also averaged a pass success rate of 92% in the Premier League this season, while also averaging 93.4% in the Europa League. His work rate has been brilliant and Barkley is now showing the drive he lacked a few months ago. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)
The manager must now ensure he hands Barkley the regular game time he needs. Barkley has definitely stepped up his performances this season and this poses a good opportunity for the 24-year-old to make an impression on his manager.
