8. Derby Defeat triggers poor run
Things suddenly went pear-shaped for Mourinho and United after they lost their first derby of the season 1-2 against Manchester City at the Old Trafford. The defeat came as a bitter pill to swallow, more so with Jose’s arch-rival Pep Guardiola in the opponent’s dugout. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, making his first start, was taken off at half-time and would not play for United for months to come. The Red Devils then lost their Europa League opener away to Feyenoord and then followed it up with a humiliating 3-1 defeat at the hands of Watford. A bright start had turned gloomy within a matter of weeks.
