1 goal, 5 assists – Sheffield United can strengthen their promotion chase by signing this 27-yr-old Spaniard in January

Why Sheffield United must go all out to sign Birmingham’s Jota in January

Sheffield United are eyeing a January move for Birmingham City playmaker Jota, as per a report from the Star.

The 27-year-old Spaniard has enjoyed a good start to the new Championship campaign, contributing with five assists and a goal in 15 games. Jota arrived at Birmingham City in 2017 after a brilliant spell with Brentford and he is now slowly starting to weave his magic under manager Garry Monk. The Spaniard has become a crucial cog in Monk’s side and following a lively start to the new season, he is being tracked by Sheffield United.

Sheffield United have made have made a rollicking start to the 2018/19 campaign and are getting better with every passing week. The Blades are doing very well and are on top of the Championship.

Jota

Chris Wilder’s side are well-organised, disciplined, ambitious and are making all the right noises in the Championship at the moment. Despite the confidence brimming around Bramall Lane, Wilder should not take any chances and must seek to add more quality to his squad.

Wilder must prioritise signing a No.10 in January as he only has Mark Duffy as an out-and-out creative playmaker. Duffy is an indispensable figure to the Blades but he is 33 and cannot continue playing with the same intensity twice a week.

Hence, adding another fluid playmaker to the system would do Sheffield a world of good and Wilder must sign Jota in January.

Jota can play on either flank or through the middle as a No.10 and could straightaway slot into the Blades’ line-up.

An excellent reader of the game, the Spaniard combines sound technique with his sharp reflexes and flawless positional awareness to create chances for teammates. He loves to keep the ball moving around the park with his impressive range of passing.

Jota of Brentford

Jota can carve open defences with his vision and creativity, while he is also a threat from dead-ball situations. It is his versatility, coupled with an excellent technical ability that makes him such an asset.

The Celta Vigo youth product is known for his long-range shooting and has shown at Birmingham that he can be a consistent source of goals for his team.

Going by his qualities, Jota fits the bill perfectly at United. Wilder’s side would get a complete package with a lot of talent and if Wilder manages to recruit a player of Jota’s class, it will no doubt be a huge statement of intent from the Blades.
