1.6 tackles, 4.2 clearances: Levy would be wise to break Tottenham’s structure and get this deal done

Comparing Sergio Ramos and Toby Alderweireld – Stats show that Tottenham should not sell the Belgian to Real Madrid

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in a sensational summer move for Tottenham Hotspur contract rebel Toby Alderweireld. The towering centre-back has been an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for quite some time now but with no conclusion on contract talks so far, the player is understood to have attracted attention from the reigning European champions, who are desperate to boost their defensive depth after a far-from-ideal campaign so far.

Anytime that somebody mentions ‘Real Madrid’ and ‘defence’, Sergio Ramos immediately pops into the minds of a lot of us. Ramos has been a consistent figure of stability at the back for the Spanish giants and his influence for the club has simply been unparalleled.

As days progress, he is only getting better and there is no doubt that he can work well with Alderweireld as well. But is the Spurs man strong enough to play for Real? Let’s take a look at their stats from this season so far.

Sergio Ramos vs Toby Alderweireld

In 22 games across competitions for Real Madrid this season, Ramos has scored 2 goals and has chipped in with an assist as well. The player is known to have a questionable disciplinary record and that is illustrated by the fact that he has received 5 yellow cards and 2 red cards already.

Sergio Ramos

His pass success-rate stands at a remarkable 91.8% and he wins about 2.8 aerial duels on an average. Defensively, he averages 1.7 tackles, 1.8 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per game. Ramos has also won a solitary Man of the Match award this term.

Meanwhile, Alderweireld has made 16 appearances for Tottenham so far. Due to his fitness concerns and Davinson Sanchez’s brilliance, Alderweireld could not appear much but his influence is quite visible. He has chipped in with a single assist so far and has picked up 3 yellow cards.

His pass success-rate is a decent 84.4% and he wins about 1.3 aerial duels per game. In addition to that, the Spurs defender has made an average of 1.6 tackles, 0.4 interceptions and 4.2 clearances per game so far.

Verdict

Ramos is clearly on a different level but Alderweireld is not far behind. He could prove to be an asset for any club, given his power and intelligence. However, he is also a player Spurs have relied on heavily in the past and they must do everything they can to get him to sign a new contract and stay with them beyond the end of the season.
