Jose Mourinho is evidently happy that Samuel Eto’o has expressed his desire to join Chelsea as Anzhi look to offload the forward along with a host of other stars for financial reasons.
“I am always happy that somebody that worked with me previously is happy to be back and work with me again,” Mourinho has said in an interview to BT Sport. “That is a good feeling that I have, when I read something that Samuel is keen. It is fantastic for us, but we are going to see what happens.”
Chelsea have wanted Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney in their team, but United have no intentions to let him go. In this situation, Mourinho must look for other viable options and Samuel Eto’o has presented himself to be a realistic target for them. The striker has previously worked under Mourinho at Inter Milan and if he joins the Blues, he would be reuniting with his former boss.
Eto’o joined Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala in 2011, but now their billionaire owner needs to sell all his star players to restructure the financial model. Eto’o has previously stated that he would love to reunite with Mourinho and mentioned that Mourinho is the best coach he has played with.
On the other news, Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has stated that he has to play regularly at the club level to get a break into the Australian squad that is poised to play a friendly against Brazil next month. The veteran goalkeeper joined the Londoners this summer, merely as a backup to Petr Cech.
“By signing for Chelsea, if I haven’t played enough games or played (any) games by next month, we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Nobody’s guaranteed a spot in the (Australian) squad. The places are very fiercely contested for. Fingers crossed that things work out.”, the 40 year old said.
“I want to play as many games as I possibly can – be it, firstly, with my club and secondly, for my country. I’ve always had my hand up to play as many games as possible, wherever they’ve been. It hasn’t been an issue to me.”, the former Fulham keeper added.
